Janos pointed out, that I should develop a plugin, wich allows you to search through google's search engine. The google custom search Api provides a great interface for developing such things! How would you like the power of google on your website?
What is the purpose of this plugin?
Sometimes all the webmasters want some features for their websites wich are unique. This plugin uses the strength of google and the power of joomla for searching. The idea is simple: your visitor types in the keywords, google does the search, joomla gives them the results. The plugin also works well with our Universal AJAX Live Search plugin - it's like having a mini google implemented on your website!
Things you should know about the plugin
- You will need a google api key.
- Google allows only 100 queries/day for free, for more search queries you need to pay them. This means, that after 100 search requests you won't get any results.
- You need to have Curl enabled on your server.
Troubleshooting and Faq
- I have installed the plugin, but it's not working!
- Make sure, that after installing you have enabled the plugin. Also, you will need a google API key, wich you can get here. If you are using Universal Ajax Live Search, then make sure, that the plugin is included on the module configuration page.
- I have an API key, set up the plugin, made the changes in the module, but still no results!
-
Probably the Curl is disabled on your server. Contact the server administrator, he may help you, or if you own the server, you can make the proper changes by
following these steps:
- Open the php.ini file.
- Search for ;extension=php_curl.dll
- Modify that line to: extension=php_curl.dll
-
Optionally, here is a code snippet for testing curl:
